Escape the Snare of the Devil
One warning that Christ continually gave to His disciples was not to let the world choke out their love for the Father. Disciples must live circumspectly, the Gospel is both the cause of sufferings and the power of God leading to resurrection. The Gospel calls all to repent of sin and live according to the new life imparted by the Spirit, one must live by faith, which will grow as one puts it into action. The born again Christian walking in obedience to God will grow in holiness. God alone is light and is vital to our existence. Christians must have the light of God within. A person performing religious duty without being born again remains in darkness. Not everyone receives the message of the cross after hearing it preached. One must have the will to follow after Christ, repent, and be filled with His light and life. The life of the Christian depends on whether they remain in a right relationship with God. When Adam became more attached to the creature he died. If anyone desires to follow after Christ they must deny themselves and follow after Him and continue to do so. In this passage Paul warns Timothy not to get entangled with the affairs of this life, they must never become the dominant factor! Nothing else can become our first love. Love for God must be the greatest. Anything that draws us away from God is a traitor. The Christian must identify every situation with the will of God. Every follower of Christ has been promised a place with Him in Heaven, the Devil will try to lead us astray. Christians must bring all thoughts into captivity to Christ, only through repentance can we come to our senses and use our minds to love God and escape the snares of the Devil.
