It May Be Well With Us When We Obey the Voice of the Lord Our God

The events of this chapter take place in approximately 587 BC. The Jewish Church has passed the point of no return, they would no longer be the apple of God’s eye. The glory would depart from the temple and never return. Their religion had become false, wickedness had replaced righteousness, and the people lived wicked lives but still went to Church. The Lord had reached a point where He would no longer be giving them grace, judgment was coming. Judgment will always come when a people no longer keep the covenant of God. The doom was sure, but there was a promise. There was still a small group who respected the prophet Jeremiah and they wanted to hear the Word of the Lord. Jeremiah gives them a prophecy and tells them their survival would be based on whether they would be true to God alone, not to Israel, not to Judaism, but to God and His holiness. The prophet tells the people to repent and obey the voice of God. In these last days all must remain disciplined and live by faith. Up to this point in Israel’s history God had given the Jews grace and God was willing to bear with them as long as they responded to Him. Today many in the Church have made false professions to serve God but live in a way that serves the Devil. God sees the idolatry of people’s hearts and He will retract His covenant from those who refuse Him. Jeremiah speaks to these hypocrites as Christ would 550 years later calling them to no longer by hypocrites of heart. May the Church of today no longer be hypocrites in heart, but rather repent until their hearts are completely changed by the grace of God.
