The Chief Cornerstone

This parable of Christ is spoken to the Jewish nation not long before disaster and destruction was about to befall them. The reason this time of disaster was coming was because they had rejected Jesus Christ the Chief Cornerstone and they had persisted in their sins. At the core of their sin was idolatry. The supreme call of mankind is to love God above all other things, but instead of doing this the Jewish nation chose to love the things of the world more than God. They were so enamored with their idols that they did not even notice when God was in their midst, and they had Him crucified! The Church in America today is going down the same path. They continually reject and rebel against true minsters and many would rather kill God than give up their idols. People want blessings without obedience. This was the sin of the Israel when God sent His Son the first time, and this is the sin of the Church today as God prepares to send His Son a second time. God is still seeking to reach the Church today but they are rejecting and refusing Him. Like the wicked vinedressers they refuse the commandments of God and insist on their own way instead. Some of the earliest idolatry is seen in the person of Nimrod and the people of Babylon who desired to build a tower out of defiance to God. Nimrod was like many evil men who have risen to power through history and out of defiance of God promoted idolatry among the people he ruled. But even during the time of Nimrod was righteous Abraham who refused to worship idols and worshipped Yahweh instead! May a new generation of believers rise up and defy idolatry as Abraham did, seeing Christ as the Chief Cornerstone.
