How Does Your Garden Grow?
Most people seek to find pleasure in the world. Even King Solomon fell into this trap. Solomon was trying to fill his life with distraction and pleasure. As he did this he was not tending the garden, as he should have been. Even if one is prosperous there is still and emptiness in the soul. Vanity does not bring lasting satisfaction, nothing can satisfy the soul in this world. The things of this world drive people mad if one spends their life chasing after them. Solomon had lost the presence of God and therefore he had lost everything. He had used the soil of his garden for entertainment and it had become hard. As believers we need to be prepared and get ready to be used by God. The heart of the believer must get prepared and stay prepared. The heart must be kept clean. We must yield up all things we treasure more than God. A person must fully surrender to Christ and allow Him to be Lord. Be sure to keep your soul well tended and well watered. We also must be careful of the ideas that come into your mind. No matter how much favor, talent, or grace a person has they must be careful what is planted in their souls. Evil company produces bad habits. Beware of the subtle temptations that will lead you away from God. We must keep and guard the garden. Keep those things out which would try to destroy it. Tending the garden means working at your occupation. Do not let your mind wander and be drawn away from your occupation. Our duty is to believe in Christ. We must not lose sight of God’s purpose for our life. We must be about doing God’s work, and attending the garden. We are to do the will of God and bear much fruit for His glory.
