The Highest Order

Young Samuel was born into a compromising religious system in the midst of the darkest days in the history of Israel. His mother, Hannah, prayed that he would be lent to the Lord as long as he lived. Hannah was unique during her time because she understood what it meant to serve God in the highest order. She was deeply consecrated to God as her highest good. This was not the case with her husband Elkanah. He put himself before the will of God, this can be seen in the fact that he took a second wife when Hannah bore him no children. When Samuel was born Hannah sought to put him on the right course. During his time of service to God Samuel tried to keep the Lord the focus of the hearts of the people, but no one can keep people from what they desire in their hearts. The Lord was about to destroy Shiloh, the religious capital of Samuel’s time. It was a religious place that no longer represented God’s nature. Eli and his sons had abused their priestly positions. Eli worshipped the ark and his sons more than God. His sons were wicked and immoral, they violated God’s commands and desecrated the sacred office. This is much like the situation in the world and the Church today. God is calling for a people to love what He loves and hate what He hates. For a people who look to Him as the highest order. God is seeking for a people who will be yielded to the Lord’s virtue, not people who are proud, ignore God’s Word, and are full of intellectual arrogance. God is seeking for people who live in willing poverty, where He alone satisfies them as the highest order. God is seeking for a pure people, who have denied themselves, living in purity, and looking to God as the highest order.
