I Delight To Do Your Will O My God
This psalm is a prayer of a heart being changed by the Holy Spirit. This is the process of one who is getting ready for Heaven. David is calling for God, his strength is gone but he still has an intense desire to God’s will. This is the seriousness of the sanctification process, the enemies of our soul try to distract us with worldly comfort instead of allowing the work to continue. Satan always tries to replace the joy of the Lord with worldly things. This is the process of God bringing about a pure character, this is the purging of the Holy ones. Each step costs more and more. Religion always places the emphasis on the external, but true worship comes from the heart. Jesus showed His love for the Father through sacrifice, superficial religion does not do this. The restoration of the human must take place in the heart and the mind not through outward religion. Christian’s hearts must be the altar! The only way one will delight to do the will of God is if they allow the Holy Spirit to destroy all self-centered thoughts and continue to deny ourselves. One must take up their cross and kill every trace of the self-centered life. This is the difference between a relationship with Christ and self-centered religion. The devils of this world are always trying to get us more concerned with ourselves than God. Self-sacrifice for God is the call of the Christian, not self-sacrifice for your own personal motives. A religious life never brings joy or victory, there must be a complete surrender of the will to God. This is the person who delights to do the will of God, everything else is external religion.
