What Do You Wish?
This sermon is a close look at the ending of the earthly ministry of Christ. Toward the end of His ministry Jesus was going up to Jerusalem and was burdened with His mission that weighed heavily upon Him, but His only desire was to do the will of His Father, not matter what the cost. This is where the difference is made between a true Christian and those that are not. True disciples will continue to obey God, even in the midst of trial. Those that are not will turn away from Him. A true disciple of Jesus walks as He commands and obeys Him. On His way to Jerusalem Jesus is also approached by Salome, the mother of James and John. She asks if her sons can sit at his right and left in His Kingdom. What can be seen in her is a desire to see Christ set up an earthly kingdom like many in the Church are being deceived to believe today. People who become “man centered” rather than Christ centered, people who put emphasis upon the outward life, personal gain, and the social gospel rather than a true change of heart and holiness. Those that are caught up in this kind of thinking need to consider the example of Christ and others like the Apostle Paul who considered all things rubbish compared to Christ. Tragically the modern “gospel” that is being taught today loves God less and loves sin more, claims salvation is simply a mental ascent to Biblical Truth, and tells people nothing of the cost of following Christ. The true Gospel is something to be experienced; it is to be baptized into Christ and to drink His cup, dying to sin and self and surrendering entirely to Him.
