Emptied of Self, Filled With God
Paul wrote this letter to Timothy from prison. Many of Paul’s letters were written from prison and he was constantly exhorting the congregations that he wrote to support the ministry so more people could be reached with the Gospel. As Christians give of themselves it is proof of their ministry, their lives show they are Christians, they share with others through sacrifice. Christians are to give of themselves for others. Christians must be willing to see things from a Christ centered perspective. In order to do this there must be no idolatry within. Christians must obey God out of love for their Savior, no longer doing what they want to do, but doing everything for His glory! A person who does not give of themselves for the glory of God does not love God with all their heart. Christians must be willing to obey when God speaks and never play around with the things of God. Christians are to die daily. Christians are to be emptied of self and filled with God, dead to self and alive in Him. Christians must be willing to receive the teachings of God as excellent. No one throws away what is not excellent! The scripture surpasses the value of thought and reasoning. Christ must be excellent, He must be the master. Holiness is the natural characteristic of those that love God and are filled with God. Christ must be seen as the end of all things, nothing else is gain but Jesus Christ. The eye of the Christian must be single. In order to be filled with God one must give of themselves and be willing to sacrifice. That is how Christ calls us to live. Don’t put anything in front of your love for the Lord! He must increase, we must decrease.
