Authority Must Spring From Within
King David had decided in his own heart to obey God’s Moral Law. King Saul refused to obey God’s commands. In order for the moral law of God to have lasting impact on someone’s life it must be given authority over the will. Saul obeyed God’s commands at times but was only following an external authority, he had no personal relationship with God. He followed rules only as they served his own values and purposes, but he was still unwilling and disobedient in his heart. If one does not give God supreme authority over their life they are only obeying a law. A person must desire to follow after Christ must deny themselves and give God authority over their life. If we view our own rights as supreme we will continue to have authority over our lives. The true Christian has repented and given God authority over their life. All true authority must spring from within. People must be willing to submit to the Lord’s authority, anything less than being born again is only a set of laws and rules. We see from the examples of lives like King Solomon and King Rehoboam who are haughty and sacrifice eternal life because they are not willing to give God full allegiance. The authority of God’s moral law is revealed in the scriptures along with man’s responsibility to respond. When the Spirit of Christ enters a person God’s presence is within. They receive a new Spirit and a new nature. One cannot achieve the righteousness God requires on their own. Christ came to make us holy and save us from hell. One can only be saved when they give Christ the authority from within. To be a Christian is to desire God and allow Him to have full lordship over our lives.
