A Sword Will Pierce Through Your Own Soul Also

Sanctification in both the Old and New Testaments is to devote and dedicate to God’s service so He can make one pure and holy. The life of Abraham is an example of this. God’s discipline does not teach us to give up in difficult circumstances but to go on trusting in His promises. Many times our failures are in the areas we are the strongest because we are not relying on God. Even looking at the life of Abraham one can see the life of a man who made mistakes but did not allow them to diffuse his relationship with God. He grew in the midst of failures because he trusted that God would remain faithful. Abraham had to continue to apply what God taught him so he could understand the vision of God. Both Abraham and Lot grew in their possessions, but the difference was Abraham grew spiritually as well and Lot did not. Lot wanted to be independent from God. He was not willing to follow with the people of God. Abraham allowed the Lord to be the ruler of his heart. Abraham placed God higher than everything else in his heart and mind. His understanding of God came through faith, not through anything else. Lot thought of himself as being higher than God. Abraham saw himself as a pilgrim, Lot remained unchanged. Lot chose what was carnal, Abraham chose God’s will and was able to overcome difficulty and trials as a result. The promises of God correspond with the acts and conduct of our faith. God sees the thoughts and intents of our hearts. How we act in response to the promises and trials of God determines how God sees our faith. God will not vies us more if we are not using what He has given to us already. Abraham is an example of a life built on faith in God.
