All That the Father Gives Me Will Come to Me

This sermon is a focus on the human will. It is made clear in the scriptures that God desires for all to come to repentance and it was for this very purpose that Jesus Christ was sent to the world. In this passage from the gospel of John it is clear that the crowds who were following after Christ were all following Him for various reasons, but one thing they all had in common is that they willed to follow Him for one reason or another. Some desired to eat the bread that He fed them. Some desired to make Him a king by force to overthrow the rule of Rome. And some desired the Truth. Until one is born again their will is in bondage to selfishness. At this point many turn to religion, but religion can be practiced out of selfish motives. God desires that His true disciples would follow and obey Him out of love, but God will not force anyone to do anything. In order to truly follow after Christ by faith one must be willing. God draws people through the Gospel, but one must respond by faith. The faith that God requires of His followers is an active and present faith that produces action. Whenever one hears the Gospel they must first count the cost and determine if they are willing to follow Christ or not, but the appeal begins and ends with free will. If one decides to follow after Christ God will give everything that is needed and required to do so. But if a person does not will to follow after Christ God can do nothing for that person, and even what He has given will be taken away. Do you will to follow Christ? Or do you will to turn from Him and to death? All must decide for themselves.
